Public Art Design Competition

A national public art competition to create an innovative playground on Newcastle’s harbour foreshore has unfortunately not delivered a winner. The public art playground was to be located in Worth Place Park which will become a feature at Honeysuckle.

The Worth Place Playground competition was an exciting opportunity to create a major artwork in specific response to Newcastle’s distinctive maritime and industrial history and setting.  The competition was open to designers in a range of professions from public artists to landscape architects.

Design submissions needed to address a range of criteria and were assessed by an expert selection panel.  A preferred design was chosen but ultimately did not meet the budget requirements.  The Corporation thanks all those who submitted designs.

The Corporation is currently considering a new competition or process to commission a short list of designs.
